My career has ranged from toymaking, the production of decorative furniture, authoring and contributing to several books on art and design. I work in the fields of graphic and web design and have taught in primary schools, further education colleges and universities.
I am an incessant creative who endlessly sifts contemporary thinking in an effort to find and tread my own path. Finding no personal reasons for limitation my career has followed a wide range of disciplines.
Currently my central interest lies in fine art painting. Here I find my greatest freedom of expression and am pursuing my art to its fullest extent. Born in West Sussex, I now live with my artist wife Jill in the Cotswold valleys of Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Stroud Open Studios starts 13th June. I have been invited to show some work at Tower House in Woodchester. Everyone there has been working hard to get the place ready and it will be their first opening as an arts collective.
The piece I am showing is titled 'Selene', a 50" x 60" oil on canvas. It is an exercise is gentle tone which for me is unusual as I tend towards strong contrasts and vibrant colour. This work has a' dare I say it, pastelesque sensibility. It was built from many layers of overpainting that results in subtle shifts and surprises.
The overall effect is of a soft, circular radiance and it displays many of the characteristics of the moon in a blue sky. Hence the title which is the name of the goddess of the moon.
